Trump administration faces deadlines
(NBC News) It’s a big week for the Trump administration, with major deadlines surrounding the president’s tax returns and special counsel Robert Mueller’s report into Russian election meddling.
House Democrats are demanding that Attorney General William Barr respond to their request for a more complete version of the Mueller report, by Monday morning. Barr has made a less-redacted version available to 12 top lawmakers, but Democrats want all members to see it, or they say they’ll hold Barr in contempt.
Also on Monday, we should know how the administration will respond to a subpoena from House Democrats, demanding the president’s tax returns. After missing the first deadline, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said he will take final action by today.
Meanwhile, lawmakers are working to bring special counsel Robert Mueller before the House Judiciary Committee on May 15 – something President Trump said should not happen.
House Democrats have also subpoenaed documents from Former White House Attorney Don McGahn. They also want him to testify before lawmakers, but Mr. Trump could invoke executive privilege, and block McGahn’s testimony.
