Train derails in Todd County, blocks roadway

TRENTON, Ky. – A train derailment in Todd County has closed a roadway.

WEKT Radio reports that a train derailed near Kentucky 476 and Tress Shop Road in Trenton on Tuesday morning.

Emergency officials told WEKT that at least 20 train cars derailed and the road is expected to be closed for an indefinite period.

Crews are currently working to clear the scene. The train cars were carrying molten sulfur.

U.S. 41 between Pembroke and Trenton is shut down, according to the report.

Hopkinsville hazmat crews are assisting at the scene.

WEKT spoke with Todd County Emergency Management officials who say a shelter-in-place has been issued for Trenton residents.

Trenton residents have been asked to turn off home air conditioning systems.

No injuries have been reported.
