Toys for Tots celebrating record year of service to community during the holidays
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the holiday season officially over, many nonprofits are getting their numbers back on a very successful holiday season.
Toys for Tots saw a record breaking year this year, donating 96,821 toys, books and stocking stuffers to 32,668 children across 23 Kentucky counties. The message of hope, happiness and love was delivered by the countless number of volunteers who showed up to help.
That help continued as some female inmates from the Warren County Regional Jail lent a helping hand to clean up the north pole and organize any last minute donations that will be utilized throughout the year.
“They’ve helped us collect toys at our boxes throughout Warren County. They have also come in and helped us sort toys multiple times. Today, they’re helping us sort toys. We had some last minute donations coming in after Christmas, which is great because we’re a year round program, so we’ll use those toys before Christmas. So they’re helping to sort those toys today. And then we have our wonderful, dedicated, tireless volunteers that are also here today just helping us organize and get everything kind of packed away for a few minutes,” said Janel Doyle, coordinator with Toys for Tots.
The care that Toys for Tots provide for the community doesn’t just stop at the end of the holiday season though. Programs like their nursing home program, which provides items like socks, hats and other necessities to residents in local nursing homes.
