Toys for Tots and American Legion team up to bring cheer to family following house fire
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Toys for Tots and the American Legion teamed up Wednesday night to bring some cheer to family who lost everything to a house fire.
The McInnis family lost everything a week ago in a house fire, including their vehicle.
Toys for Tots local coordinator Janel Doyle heard about the disaster and partnered with the American Legion of Bowling Green to give the four kids toys, bicycles and the family a $500 check.
“The Marines that are over the Toys for Tots program said, ‘You know, now is a perfect time to help others. Even though it’s not Christmas, we can still help others,” said Doyle.
After seeing the box full of toys, the kids dug in and got a good look at each of their new items.
“There was a lot of things there that really mattered in our family, like, there was a lot of stuff that cost a lot of money but I am blessed that they got out of they house. If they wouldn’t have, that would have been a breakdown for all of us,” said Alexa McInnis, one of the children.
“I just can’t believe it’s happening, but it is and we are very appreciative for everything. We’re very happy. It’s a good thing that ya’ll guys do that for people that need it. It’s a good program. It shows us that there are still good people out there,” said Miranda Adams, the mother of the children.
The kids said they were excited to get home and play with the toys, one child even said she would share a toy with her cousin.
