Throwback Thursday: Warren County Justice Center

This week we’re in downtown Bowling Green on Center Street. Twenty years ago, the Warren County Justice Center was built next to the Warren County Regional Jail. An extension of services from the Warren County Courthouse on 10th Avenue, the justice center offers modern amenities.

Discussion to renovate the justice center began in 1994, with a groundbreaking in July of 1997. The project was two-fold, with the construction of both a brand-new government building and extreme renovations to the existing justice center.

The four-story Warren County Justice Center is over 25 thousand square feet and was completed in 1998. The official dedication of the $32 million dollar construction project was May 1, 2000, officially known as law day in the United States.

With its fountain features lining the Center Street entrance and asymmetrical entrance with columns and window features, the architecture is an example of post-modernism. The Justice Center was designed by CMW architects headquartered in Lexington. Inside is a notable statue of blind justice.

The justice center is home to the Warren County and Commonwealth attorneys, along with pre-trial services and a court designated worker program. The justice center also contains some circuit court and family court services.

We were unable to take the camera inside the building due to security. The justice center is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
