Throwback Thursday – Boyce General Store
Boyce burgers. The Pie Queen. Catfish Friday. Hungry Man Wednesday. Pickin’ on the Patio. These are all our favorite things about the Boyce General Store. 2019 marks the store’s 150th anniversary.
Built in 1869 by Reverend Bill Lightfoot, the Boyce Store is about 15 minutes outside Bowling Green. It was both a convenience store and post office for the Alvaton community at the time.
The store has been a staple ever since, especially for travelers looking for just a couple grocery store items or authentic southern comfort meals. Current owners Brad and Grie Golliher bought the store in 2012, turning it into a restaurant.
Making it a community watering hole for special events, Brad and Brie have made the Boyce General Store the hub for all the gossip, family events, and fun. They created a Pickin’ on the Patio live bluegrass music concert series for summertime and added a new patio to the old store. Brie’s passion for baking and delicious recipes have earned her the title of the Pie Queen of Bowling Green.
The Boyce General Store is known nationwide for its southern hospitality and top-notch food. It’s been featured on KET’s Kentucky Life, Travels with Darley on PBS, on the Map Dot, Kentucky KET documentary, in USA Today, Country Living, Cosmopolitan magazine, and more.
Exciting events are in the works to celebrate the Boyce General Store’s 150th birthday.
We want to create some awesome things for everyone who’s been part of keeping this sweet spot alive. Please send us any photos you have from the last 150 years. Tag us on social media with #boyceturns150 or email boycegeneralstore@gmail.com.
