THRIVE program grows throughout Warren County

WARREN COUNTY, KY.- A few years ago, the Warren County Public Library and Warren County Parks and Recreation launched a unique collaboration through the THRIVE program, offering pop-up events and camps for kids across the community.

These events take place in public parks, schools, daycares, and summer camps, providing fun and support wherever children gather. Emily Witthuhn of WCPL explains that these pop-ups are meant to bring joy and relief, especially for summer program leaders.

The initiative has grown from reaching around 600 children in its early days to over 20,000 just this past summer. Leah Spurlin of WCPR recalls starting the outreach with a bullhorn in local neighborhoods, a testament to their grassroots efforts.

In an age dominated by technology, both organizations prioritize face-to-face engagement, offering safe, welcoming spaces for recreation, reading, and mentorship.

These pop-ups don’t just serve kids—they help parents stay connected to their communities too. By bringing enriching experiences directly to neighborhoods, the program ensures no child or family is left out due to barriers like transportation or work schedules.
