Three nominees announced for vacant family court judgeship

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Three nominees for a vacant judgeship were announced Tuesday.

According to a release, the Judicial Nominating Commission, led by Chief Justice of the Commonwealth Debra Hembree Lambert, announced attorneys James Richard Downey, Ashlea Shepherd Porter, and Rebecca Simpson as nominees for the vacant Family Court judgeship in Edmonson and Warren Counties.

The counties make up the 8th Judicial Circuit, Family Division 3.

The seat was vacated by Judge David Lanphear, who announced his retirement on September 4. His retirement was effective September 30.

Downey is house counsel for Hunt Furd.

Porter is a private practice attorney with the Alan Simposon Law Office.

Simpson is a partner at the English, Lucas, Priest & Owlsey law firm.

Family Court is a division of Circuit Court and has primary jurisdiction in cases involving family issues, including divorces, adoption, child support, domestic violence and juvenile status offenses.
