Three arrested after driver loses control of stolen vehicle in Barren County

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Three people are behind bars after a Barren County sheriff’s deputy witnessed the driver of a stolen vehicle lose control of the vehicle.

It happened early Tuesday morning on Berry Store Road.

According to the Barren County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy witnessed the person behind the wheel driving erratically and then lose control.

Deputies say the driver, later identified John Wheat, 54, then fled on foot.

Authorities later located wheat and arrested him along with his two passengers, Scotty Wix, 35, and Mary Coates, 27.

Deputies learned the vehicle was reported stolen out of Glasgow, after noticing the vehicle’s license plate did not match the VIN number.

Deputies also say they found two bags containing suspected methamphetamine inside the vehicle.

All three were lodged in the Barren County Detention Center and charged with multiple offenses.
