The Hive holds ribbon cutting for new location in Scottsville, set to open in February 2026
SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – Bees may relocate hives to get better resources or because they’ve outgrown their space, but The Hive in Bowling Green is expanding, as they are set to open their newest location in Allen County in 2026.
Bowling Green program director Grace Hagan says there aren’t many resources for young adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities, and this is a way they can help the smaller communities in our area.
“Most of us, we get to choose what we do, whether you go into the workforce or you go to college or start a trade… and that’s not an option for a lot of people with disabilities, and so being able to bring that into Scottsville to really provide, again, community for individuals who, a lot of times, would end up sitting at home by themselves with probably just a device if they’re lucky. This should build some friendships as well as work on some skills that we all probably need to work on… and so it’s going to be a really great thing to be out here, and to be able to provide these services for everyone here,” she says.
The new building is located a few minutes outside of downtown Scottsville, and its program director Hannah Parker says people can expect a lot of fun and a lot of learning.
“We focus on independent living skills, vocational, we do arts and crafts… exploring Allen County, like I know it’s a small town and people probably know everything here, but I can’t wait to explore it myself… and do kind of field trips going around, and also bringing in partnerships. We’re going to have Goodwill here. We’re just really excited to be here and to get everything started,” she says.
With the building set to open in February, there are a few things they’ll need beforehand, and they’re asking for your help.
“We are also looking for donations to fill up this big old space, so if anyone is feeling that in their heart to donate, we have a list of items that we still need as well as… just anything, any little bit helps,” Hagan says.
“We will need plenty of volunteers as well. We would love to have the community come in and help out if they can. Also if anyone just wants to come drop by and see the building, we would love… just kind of schedule a tour and just show people of Allen County what The Hive is all about,” Parker adds.
If you’re interested in dropping by to donate or just check out the space, The Hive’s new Scottsville building is located at 720 North Fourth Street.
