BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Foundry Christian Community Center has rallied together for change, one penny at a time.

Last week, children at the community center’s summer camp worked on a mission to collect a full mile of pennies, learning teamwork along the way. With the support of staff, volunteers and board members, the community center says the group met their goal.

Together, they raised 84,440 pennies, totaling $844.40, organizers say.

The community center says the lesson was meant to teach about serving others and about trusting in God.

On Wednesday, July 16, the group gathered to fill a mile-long line with pennies.

The week ended with two field trips, including a visit to the Bowling Green-Warren County Human Society. On Friday, organizers say the children chose to donate the pennies to the animal shelter.
