Warren County Public Library hosts Day of the Dead celebration

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Many think the Day of the Dead is the Mexican version of Halloween, but it is not. The Warren County Public Library is clearing up some misconceptions when it comes to the Day of the Dead holiday.

While hosting a celebration, the staff of the library wanted to reach many goals. One goal specifically is to educate the children on the many different traditions that take place in Mexican culture, especially during this holiday. They do this by teaching the kids about different flowers, teaching them traditional songs, and so much more.

The Youth and Family Program Coordinator, Dulce Sanchez-Tunks at the library put a lot of hard work and dedication into the celebration, and she recognizes how impactful this is.

Dulce says, “They loved it. They had so much fun, especially when we broke the pinata and we were all singing the song and got to have the blindfold on. I know it’s not something that they do traditionally when they’re growing up, so it’s barely out of their comfort zone. They probably see videos of it, and so to be able to experience that, but it was so surreal for them to say, ” Oh my gosh, I get to break this pinata and sing this song and do all these cool things.”

The celebration is not stopping here. You can join in the celebration of the Day of the Dead with at a FREE family movie at the Capitol on Wednesday, November 1, at 5 p.m.
