‘The Best Gift: A Christmas Carol Musical’ to launch at SKYPAC this November

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center and Ramsey Theatre Company have announced the world premiere of “The Best Gift: A Christmas Carole Musical.”

This newly commissioned holiday production reimagines the classic Charles Dickens tale with original music, heartfelt storytelling and theatrical excellence the entire family can enjoy.

According to SKYPAC, “The Best Gift” offers a “fresh and moving take on ‘A Christmas Carol,’ featuring all-original songs and a vibrant new interpretation designed to resonate with today’s audiences.”

The show is written by acclaimed husband-and-wife duo Dick and Melodie Tunney, whose storied careers include a Grammy Award win and multiple Dove Awards. With a signature blend of emotional resonance and musical storytelling, the Tunneys breathe new life into Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey of redemption. Directing this world premiere is Diane DiCroce, producing artistic director of Ramsey Theatre Company. DiCroce has performed on Broadway with Les Misérables, and across national and international tours of beloved musicals including My Fair Lady and 42nd Street. Her career on stage and in leadership brings a high level of artistry and vision to this original production.

“I’m delighted for Ramsey Theatre Company, Bowling Green’s professional-in- residence theatre at SKYPAC, to present this new holiday tradition,” DiCroce says. “This production offers a unique opportunity to share an original musical adaptation of a beloved classic, brought to life with Broadway-style staging and choreography, a live orchestra, and extraordinary sets, lighting, and sound.”

A staged reading of the musical was held earlier this summer. The full production will take the stage this fall with performances on Friday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 22 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

“The Best Gift” will officially launch the Christmas at SKYPAC season, marking the beginning of what is set to become a cherished annual holiday tradition for the Bowling Green community and beyond.

Auditions for the production will be held Friday, Aug. 22 and Saturday, Aug. 23.

Ramsey Theatre Company encourages all to audition with a virtual submission option also available.
