The 400-mile yard sale kicks off
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Buyers and sellers are lined up on highway 68 for nearly 400 miles across the state of Kentucky.
“We probably got every bit of 5,000 items out here,” Nancy Miller, a seller for the 400-mile yard sale.
From Halloween boos to “I love you,” furniture and more, each seller had their own little store front.
Miller said she looks forward to packing her yard with refurbished goods every year and that one man’s trash is another’s treasure.
“The family likes to buy too much when we don’t need it, and I’m the world’s worst; I’m a clothes buyer, but that’s okay. God blesses me so this way I can bless other people,” she said.
Miller said buyers come from all over to participate in the three-day event and that though her yard may nearly be empty after each day, she gets extra money to replace the things she’s sold.
“We’ve been doing this for probably 10 or 11 years. Last year it was $5,500,” Miller said.
The 400-mile yard sale was created to attract tourism and support nonprofits. Miller said this event gives a taste of Bowling Green and the Bluegrass State as buyers load up and travel back to their homes.
“A lot of people look forward to it. and it does bring some tourism to bowling green because they’re going to eat, they’re going to buy gas, they’re going to sleep over, so all that good stuff is good for Bowling Green,” she said.
If you missed on Thursday, you have until June 7 to hit the road on highway 68 and take a dive into the yard sales.
