Texas man allegedly attempts to cash fraudulent checks at Glasgow banks

GLASGOW, Ky. – A Texas man is charged with theft and drug possession in Glasgow.

On Wednesday, the Glasgow Police Department responded to a forgery report at South Central Bank at 208 South Broadway Street.

Police say the bank manager stated that around 11 am, a male attempted to cash two checks from a Scottsville non-profit. One of the checks was verified. The cashed check was $4,844.60. The branch did not cash the second check.

The male visited another bank location and attempted to cash the second check for $4,851.29. The bank manager then contacted the Glasgow Police Department.

An officer obtained an operator’s license for the transaction and photos of the suspect at each bank location.

Police say the license identified the man as Richard Walker, 35, of Dallas, Texas.

The officer responded to The Cecilian Bank, located at 607 S L Rogers Wells Boulevard, at approximately 12:30 pm on Tuesday. Walker was attempting to cash another check.

The officer contacted Walker as he was standing at the counter, waiting for the cash to be checked.

Walker was arrested and told the officer he did not want to speak with him.

During a search of Walker, the officer says suspected methamphetamine was located.

The officer recovered the check that Walker attempted to cash for $4,866.13 from Ramsey & Associates. The company told the bank that the check number did not match the number range of checks issued by the company.

Walker was transported to the Barren County Detention Center. He is charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument (identify), first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), drug paraphernalia buy/possess, and theft by unlawful taking or disposition all others $1,000 < $10,000.
