SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – A Tennessee woman is charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and drug possession after a traffic stop on Wednesday, November 27.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Office says a traffic safety stop was conducted at 2356 Old Hartsville Road after a vehicle failed to signal.

The operator of the vehicle is Ashley Smith, 40 of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee.

An Allen County sergeant says an odor of marijuana was present in the vehicle. A K9 officer conducted an open-air sniff and received a positive alert.

The sheriff’s office says Smith told them “someone else had used the vehicle and left something in it.”

A search of the vehicle discovered suspected methamphetamine, suspected marijuana, a marijuana grinder, and a set of black digital scales. A plastic bag and a container containing suspected methamphetamine were located.

A juvenile was found in the back seat of the vehicle.

Smith is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance first offense (methamphetamine), first-degree wanton endangerment first offense, endangering the welfare of a minor, failure to or improper signal, improper registration plate, and no operator’s license.

Smith is lodged at the Allen County Detention Center.
