Tennessee Valley Authority hands out free ham to Warren RECC members in Butler County

MORGANTOWN, Ky – Families in Butler County received a holiday surprise on Wednesday as members of Warren RECC were given free hams as part of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Holiday Ham Drop.

TVA partnered with the Morgantown Mission Food Bank to distribute 500 hams to Warren RECC members at no cost. Members only needed to show a valid ID or a Warren RECC bill to receive a ham.

Cars lined up throughout the day as organizers worked to help ease some of the financial strain many families experience during the holiday season.

“People have struggled this year, and I think any little bit can help,” said Jana Sublett, TVA orogram manager for Government and Community Relations. “That’s kind of what we saw these hams as: a way to give back and help out where we can.”

Organizers say the idea for the Holiday Ham Drop came together about a month ago. Butler County marked the sixth stop in TVA’s December tour, which includes nine locations across the region.

Chad Burden, district manager of the Morgantown office, said the impact goes beyond the food itself.

“It’s awesome to see a smile come on a little old lady’s face, or a young gentleman with kids who’s able to take a ham home for the holidays,” Burden said. “It’s just an awesome time.”

TVA is partnering with eight local power providers to distribute around 4,000 hams to families this holiday season. The next distribution will take place in Bowling Green for BGMU members on Thursday morning, with another stop scheduled for Glasgow EPB customers in Glasgow next Tuesday.
