PORTLAND, Tenn. – A Tennessee man is charged with violating the sex offender registry after entering a park and creating a social media account.

According to the Portland Police Department, the city’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system alerted officers to a vehicle registered to a convicted sex offender entering Meadowbrook Park on Monday.

PPD says officers responded to the park and located the vehicle, driven by Scott Zachary Myers of Portland. Officers say children were present at the park.

During the investigation, officers confirmed that Myers is listed on the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry for a conviction of receipt and distribution of child sexual exploitation material.

Officers allege that Myers created a social media account and failed to disclose it as required by state sex offender registration laws.

Myers was arrested and lodged at the Sumner County Jail.

He is charged with two counts of violation of the sex offender registry.

The investigation is ongoing.
