RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – One man has been apprehended in connection with an alleged police pursuit in Logan County several years ago.

According to a uniform citation, the Adairville Police Department arrested 24-year-old Jalon Smith of Springfield, Tennessee, on Tuesday.

This follows after Adairville police say that on November 23, 2022, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Smith at the Adairville Church of Christ.

However, police say the vehicle failed to stop. When they approached the vehicle, authorities say a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle.

Authorities say due to Smith having a suspended license, they ordered him to exit the vehicle. Police say Smith failed to follow commands, reversed his vehicle, and nearly struck a police cruiser.

Police say Smith then fled from the traffic stop, eventually reaching 90 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone.

Authorities say the pursuit reached the square in Adairville, with Smith driving at a high speed and driving recklessly.

Police say Smith nearly struck another driver head on during this time.

Following this, authorities say Smith was caught on a radar traveling at 100 mph.

Authorities say when approaching the Tennessee line, the pursuit was terminated due to the risk to society.

Smith’s vehicle was later found that day off of Emerson Bypass Road in Russellville, authorities say.

Smith remains at the Logan County Detention Center on charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first-degree wanton endangerment, speeding 26 mph or greater over the speed limit, operating on a suspended or revoked operators license, reckless driving, disregarding a stop sign and failure to or improper signal.
