Teen taken into custody after allegedly fleeing police in Adairville

Police Pursuit

ADAIRVILLE, Ky. – A teen is charged with fleeing police in a vehicle on Saturday.

According to Adairville Police chief Aaron Ashby, at 3:53 p.m. Saturday, he observed a red 2002 Chevy Silverado driving recklessly southbound on U.S. 431.

Ashby says he then conducted a traffic stop near Smiths Grove Road.

Despite multiple requests from Ashby to exit the vehicle, Ashby says the driver refused to comply. With the driver’s door locked, Ashby says he reached into the vehicle to unlock it. The driver then attempted to roll the window up while the police chief’s arm was still inside and put the truck into drive, according to Ashby.

Ashby states the driver fled the scene, speeding recklessly and crossing into Tennessee.

The pursuit lasted around 10 miles when Robertson County and Springfield police attempted to stop the vehicle by using spike strips, Ashby says.

The driver attempted to avoid the strips and turned onto Main Street in Springfield, where police say he overcorrected and flipped the truck multiple times.

The driver exited through the driver’s side window and ran from the scene, according to Ashby. The police chief says an Adairville K-9 was deployed for apprehension, at which time Ashby discovered the driver was a 17-year-old male. The teen was taken into custody without further incident.

Police say there were no other occupants in the vehicle. The pending charges against the juvenile are first-degree wanton endangerment on a police officer, second-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), second-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), resisting arrest and multiple other traffic violation.

There are no pending charges out of Tennessee, according to Ashby.

The teen driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital and was released to a guardian.
