Teen dies after collision in Frankfort

FRANKFORT, Ky. – A 16-year-old has died following a crash in Frankfort.
According to a release by the Kentucky State Police, troopers responded to Interstate 64 in Franklin County for a fatal collision that occurred just after 11 a.m. Sunday.
Troopers say the incident occurred at the 59 mile marker in the westbound lane.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2017 Toyota Highlander, driven by Earl Ragland, was heading west on Interstate 64 when it collided with a 2020 Toyota Corolla.
Authorities say the Toyota then left the road and hit a rock embankment.
A 16-year-old from Fayette County was ejected from the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries.
The teen was transported to the Frankfort Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.
Next of kin have been notified, and the investigation is still ongoing.
KSP received assistance at the scene from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Franklin County Fire Department and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.
