Teen Court program coming to Warren County, opportunity for area high school students

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-Warren district Judge Kimberly Geohegan is bringing a program to the area, one that involves area high school students.

The Teen Court program is coming to Warren County. Students will participate in real cases. The students will act as a prosecutor, a defense attorney, a bailiff, a court clerk, and a juror.

Juvenile offenders can opt to proceed to teen court. Teen court involves a jury of their peers that will decide what the sentence is in the case. It’s for first time, non-violent offenders.

Judge Kim Geohagen says this is great for those wanting to eventually pursue a career in the justice system, as it brings first-hand experience, and looks great on a resume.

“I think this is a good opportunity for high school students in Warren County to get some first-hand legal experience. A lot of students in high school are trying to decide what career they’d like to pursue, and this will give them an opportunity to have some first-hand insight into the legal field,” Geohegan said.

Once students are trained, they’ll be sworn-in to confidentiality at a ceremony on November 30. One-day training will be held November 20 at the Justice Center. Cases will start in January.
