Teen accused of killing grandparents was under court order to stay away from their home
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A teenager has been arrested and charged with the murder of two of his grandparents in Warren County.
A normally quiet neighborhood was filled with the sounds of sirens Tuesday night.
Just after 9 p.m., the Warren County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home on H. E. Johnson Road after the daughter of the residents arrived at the scene and found the door unlocked and dinner in the oven but no one home.
Deputies searched the home, found a man dead in the garage and a woman dead on the back porch, according to the teen’s arrest citation.
The victims’ names have not been released.
One neighbor, Tami Massey knew the male victim.
“I couldn’t believe it. I just saw him a couple days ago out in the yard and it’s just so absolutely shocking. I am just very stunned by the entire thing. It’s just so sad,” said Massey.
Deputies discovered that the grandson of the two dead individuals, 19-year-old Joshua Wright, was missing along with his grandfather’s 2013 Chevy truck, according to a release from the sheriff’s office and the citation.
Deputies located Wright and the missing vehicle at a residence on Woodburn Allen Springs Road.
“It’s beyond belief that a grandson could do such a thing and it breaks my heart,” said Massey.
Wright is not a stranger to the criminal justice system here.
Last August he pleaded guilty to trespassing in his grandparent’s H. E. Johnson Road home.
He was given a 30-day suspended jail sentence and 24 months of unsupervised probation on the condition that he have no further violations of the law and no contact with his grandparent’s home.
He is currently facing several criminal charges placed against him following the trespassing incident and prior to the murder charges.
Wright was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail and charged with two counts of murder and one count of robbery.
The bodies will be autopsied Thursday morning and more information will be released when the preliminary autopsies are completed.
