TC Cherry Elementary & Guarantee Pest Control host cereal dominos for food banks

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Students at TC Cherry Elementary School got to bring in cereal boxes over the last few weeks, and Tuesday, they had a little fun with every single one of them.

Starting in the gym, each box was lined up and tipped over for a fun game of dominos.

This went throughout the main hallway of the school and down towards the back classrooms.

It’s in partnership with Guarantee Pest Control, who has done this event at the school since 2017.

Principal Sheryl Anderson says the students brought in so many boxes that will help families who are fighting food insecurity.

“We ended up collecting about 4,400 boxes and we give that back to the community, and it goes to our local family resource centers and Warren County school districts and Bowling Green School districts and our local food banks,” she says.

In addition to Guarantee Pest Control, Spillway Bar & Grill took part in this year’s drive, and they’re excited to be part of this tradition.

“We were a drop off spot for the cereal and we just love being a part of it. I love that we got to come in the school today and also help to get it all set up and watch it all fall down,” Wendy Jones, a co-owner, says.

Anderson says this is a learning experience for students as well. They learned about giving back to others in their community.

While this started out as a friendly competition between classes, students eventually saw how much of an impact they make on their community.
