Taking care of your animals during the winter time
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It has been bone cold here in south-central Kentucky, but the City of Bowling Green’s Animal Control has been hard at work protecting pets from the cold.
Bowling Green Animal Control have received many calls regarding animals being left outside, some being dumped on the side of the road. Animal control isn’t just there to protect the animals but to ensure pet owners have what they need to keep their animals safe from the elements.
So, if you have an animal that loves the outdoors, what can you do to make sure animal control doesn’t have to pay you a visit?
“The best rule of thumb I tell people that I come across is, is if you are uncomfortable outside without a jacket on, so is your animal. Even if they are built for the snow, certain breeds are, certain dogs are, and they may enjoy it more than the next one. But still, keep in mind that that is not a foolproof winter coat. You still need to provide straw. You still need to provide dry shelter. They still need a dog house. They still need all of these things and access to them at all times” said Bowling Green Animal Control officer Jessica Farris.
You are encouraged to call Animal Control if you see an animal you believe is suffering, especially as temperatures are supposed to drop heading into next week.
