Take Back the Night helps raise awareness for victims of sexual assault

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The community comes together on a Friday night to Take Back the Night and raise awareness for sexual assault victims and their stories.

It’s one of the most important nights of the year for Hope Harbor and their community.

The night includes a march through the streets of Bowling Green, where the community makes their voices heard with signs and chants in support of sexual assault victims.

It also included live music and victims sharing their stories.

We spoke to an attendee of Take Back the Night, who also happens to work with Med Center Health as a sexual assault nurse examiner.

She told us how important an event like this is for community members to attend and support.

“It’s essential that we stand together as community members and understand that this type of violence happens, that we support victims, that we believe them, that we are there for them and that we provide the resources they need,” Melissa Gilpin says.
