T-Mobile’s ‘Project 10million’ helps connect students to reliable internet hotspots

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- In the era of Covid-19, having reliable internet access is crucial, especially for students navigating through their educational journeys. T-Mobile is reminding the public of a valuable resource, Project 10million. This $10.7-billion initiative was created to ensure all students have strong Wi-Fi connection through the use of hot spots.

“It’s an opportunity to engage students and communities in a way that’s highly intentional to support them in digital equity by providing a hot spot per family at np cost,” said T-Mobile industry segment advisor Iris Garner.

The process is made to be easy. Anyone can visit a local T-Mobile store with proof of free and reduced lunch for the student, and a student ID.

“There will be individuals at the store to support them through the process and ensure that they get a hot spot as soon as possible,” Garner said.

For those in areas without a nearby T-Mobile store, the hot spots can also be obtained by visiting the cellular communication company’s website and completing a brief survey. Those in the world of education call it a game changer.

“During the height of the original COVID, we had a lot of students in parking lots at McDonalds and so forth. The opportunity to get these hot spots into their hands is allowing these students an opportunity to continue their education,” said Dr. Chris George from Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College.

“We must provide opportunity for all students, and all students have to have the same tools as their peers. Ubiquitous internet access is an absolute necessity in this day and age. I’m really thrilled with T-Mobile’s commitment,” added T-Mobile national education manager Daniel Cox.

Project 10million started September of 2020, and hundreds of thousands of households have been connected to a strong Wi-Fi hot spot from this initiative since then.
