T.C. Cherry students race in their very own Derby
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Some local elementary students got into The Derby spirit Friday.
Students at T.C. Cherry Elementary spent the day learning the history and traditions of the Kentucky Derby.
Kindergarten through second grade students made their horses at home or at school or purchased them. Yesterday, they did a Kentucky Derby Tea, where they got to wear their best dress.
“I think for many of the kids, creating their own Derby horse was really a highlight,” said a T.C. Cherry teacher.
Second grade student Colby said, “My dad had a piece of wood. He didn’t need it and he heard we were having this horse race, so me and my dad got to cut it.”
“My dad gave me a stick he doesn’t use, and then he gave me a red sock that he doesn’t use. It’s clean by the way,” added Christian, another second grader.
