Suspect, victim identified after shooting at Kentucky State University

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) – Further details have been released after a shooting at Kentucky State University on Tuesday has left one dead, one hospitalized and another arrested.

According to WKYT, Kentucky State University officials identified the dead victim as 19-year-old student De’Jon Fox.

A second student remains in intensive care at a local hospital.

Jacob Lee Bard, a parent of a KSU student, has been formally charged with first-degree murder and assault, according to WKYT.

Police emphasized that this is an isolated incident involving specific individuals.

Authorities say Bard was a resident of Evansville, Indiana.

“We want to reassure the community that this, uh, was an isolated incident involving these specific individuals, and there are no active safety concerns on the campus of Kentucky State University at this time. The investigation is ongoing,” stated assistant police chief Scott Tracy.

WKYT initially reported the Frankfort Police Department said officers responded to a report of an active aggressor on KSU’s campus at around 3:35 p.m.

WKYT says a university official confirmed the shooting happened in the area of south campus.

Bard remains at the Franklin County Regional Jail.
