Sun is out, and so are the mosquitoes
BOWLING GREEN, Ky- Summer weather is here, which means it’s time to grab the sunscreen and the bug spray.
Spending more time outdoors enjoying the warm temperatures also means avoiding the itchy, painful and nasty mosquito bites.
Pest specialists say that mosquitoes are attracted to water and the human body.
While there isn’t much that can be done to keep the flying pests from seeking our blood, there is a lot that can be done to make sure mosquito populations don’t multiply around us.
The Warren County Road Department started spraying to get rid of mosquitoes last week. While the spraying targets adult mosquitoes, it does little to stop mosquitoes from continuing to populate.

“Everybody knows to empty their bird baths regularly and turn their buckets upside down. Some of the things a lot of people miss are potted plants a lot of times will have water sitting at the base of those. Culverts at your driveway, a lot of those have standing water in them, you need to do a little cleaning there make sure they drain good,” said Jimmy Blakenship, president at Guarantee Pest Control Co.
It’s also advised to wear clothes that cover your skin to avoid mosquito bites.
