Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems breaks ground at Franklin location
FRANKLIN, Ky. – Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. proudly celebrated a major milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of its Franklin facility, marking both continued growth and 40 years of partnership within the south-central Kentucky community.
The expansion represents a significant investment in the future of SEWS operations, reinforcing the company’s long-standing commitment to innovation, workforce development and regional economic growth.
Established in 1986 SEWS has grown into a leading Tier I and Tier II automotive supplier. The company designs and manufactures critical components including wire, wiring harnesses, electronic control units, terminals, and connectors, many of which are produced at the Franklin facility.
Today, SEWS operates more than 50 locations across North America, with sales exceeding $4 billion in fiscal year 2025.
“This expansion is not only about building for the future—it is a celebration of 40 years of shared success with this community,” said Keith Beckham, assistant vice president of SEWS. “We are proud of where we started, and even more excited about where we are going together.”
SEWS continues to play an active role in developing the next generation of skilled professionals through its long-standing partnership with Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College and the SKY FAME program.
Student Sponsorship, Equipment and Robotics donations for hands-on learning, and hiring program graduates are just a few examples of this mutually beneficial partnership. With this expansion, SEWS is investing in the next 40 years, creating opportunities, strengthening partnerships, and continuing to drive innovation in the automotive industry.
“This project represents our confidence in this community, our workforce, and the future of our business,” Beckham added. “We are excited to continue growing together.”
