Students from around Kentucky explore careers during SCK Launch in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Thousands of eighth graders across south-central Kentucky are getting a glimpse of their possible futures at the SCK Launch experience, which continues through Friday, Oct. 23 at the Knicely Conference Center in Bowling Green.

LAUNCH stands for Learning About Unique New Careers Here. The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce organizes the event to give students the information and inspiration to set them on a path to an eventual career.

Fifty-five businesses were on hand with 300 representatives, covering seven sectors of the economy.

Julie Milam, executive vice president of Partnership Services for the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, says, “What we really want these students to learn today is that there are so many incredible career opportunities available for them right here in this region. But on top of that, the employers, the businesses that are here have an opportunity to talk to what may be their future employees, our future industry leaders and innovators.”

This is the 10th year the SCK Launch Experience has been a vehicle to connect students to careers in construction, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, business and I.T., public safety and education, energy and agriculture.

Over those years, 26,000 eighth graders have seen the professional possibilities of our area.

The event is growing. It covers schools in the 10-county development district and added Grayson County as well this year.
