Stewart Richey provides tips on importance of checking HVAC systems during winter

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Now that we are officially in winter, it’s important to make sure your HVAC unit is fit to handle potential cold temperatures.

We spoke to the Vice President of Stewart Richey, who tells us your HVAC unit is almost like your car insurance: you don’t really think about it until you actually need it.

That’s why it’s important to make sure your unit is in the best shape possible by doing things like changing your filters.

He also says to make sure your heat is cycling throughout the home, so every room gets properly heated.

“You want to always cycle that ahead of time… make sure you hear it kicking on. When you have your heat, and you kick your thermostat over to heat,  you want to make sure you hear your furnace actually kicking on, and then make sure you feel a temperature differential coming out of your vents. It should be quite a bit warmer than it would be in the ambient room temperature,” Robert Neyenhaus says.

Robert also says to wrap your condenser in plastic so it’s not exposed to the elements like debris or ice.

Once your air conditioning unit is needed in the summer, you can just take the plastic off and recycle it.
