State Street fire’s connection to Bowling Green community

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After the fire that broke out Friday morning on State Street, many are curious as to the history of this building.

Along with being the site of Sen. Rand Paul’s office, this historic building downtown is home to many other aspects of the community.

It’s currently home to Kerrick Bachert Law Firm and was once home to the Royal Music Co.

The Bowling Green Fire Department confirmed the building next door was the original fire department in the 1800s.

Since this is such a historic building with older architecture, there’s one major challenge firefighters are facing at this moment.

“With older construction there, the way that they were built, it does have a lot of voids, a lot of attic space, and that creates the ability for the fire to spread quicker, so it’s spreading quickly and we don’t have direct access to those areas. So it’s harder for us to get that fire out,” Katie McKee with Bowling Green Fire Department says.

She also says they are not able to enter the building currently, but they’ll stick around to make sure the fire does not rekindle or force the building to collapse.
