Mt. Vernon, Ky. – Kentucky State Police London Post resolved a barricade incident following a shots-fired complaint.

KSP says it responded to contact from Rockcastle 911 regarding a shots-fired incident on Kelsey Drive in Rockcastle County on Tuesday.

KSP’s preliminary investigation says Jason N. Cope, 34 of Mt. Vernon, was in an altercation with a family member when he discharged several rounds from a firearm outside the residence.

Officers from the Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Rockcastle Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and Cope allegedly fired shots in the direction of the officers.

Police say Cope barricaded himself inside the residence.

KSP says it negotiated with Cope but he would not comply over several hours.

The KSP Special Response Team was called to the residence and used non-lethal force to apprehend Cope.

Cope is charged with seven counts of wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and persistent felon in possession of a firearm. He was also served two warrants.

Cope is lodged at the Rockcastle Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
