State police investigating trooper-involved shooting in Gallatin County

WARSAW, Ky. – Kentucky State Police is investigating a trooper-involved shooting in Gallatin County.

KSP Critical Incident Response Team says it was requested by KSP Post 5 to investigate a shooting on Thursday morning. The shooting involved a trooper.

The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office contacted KSP Post 5 to assist at a mobile home park where an armed male was firing gunshots into the air outside his residence. Law enforcement evacuated the nearby homes.

Authorities identified the man as James E. Walker, 54, of Warsaw.

Walker allegedly continued to fire his gun inside his residence and threatened to shoot law enforcement.

KSP Post 5 attempted to de-escalate the incident with negotiation.

KSP CIRT arrived at the scene and continued to negotiate with Walters.

Walter allegedly opened the door of his home and had the firearm.

KSP engaged Walter and he sustained fatal injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
