UPDATE: State police investigating deputy-involved shooting in Nelson County

BARDSTOWN, Ky. – Further details have become available after a suspect was shot in Nelson County on Christmas Day.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office says it attempted to conduct a welfare check at approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday at a home on Margaret Lane in Bardstown.
According to a uniform citation, deputies say they arrived and made contact with Scott Hart, 51, of Coxs Creek.
The sheriff’s office says Hart opened the front door armed with a gun before closing the door and remaining inside. During this time, deputies say they took cover and called Hart, who made threats before disconnecting the call.
Hart then stepped out of the home again armed with a gun, aiming directly at a deputy, authorities say.
Deputies say shots were fired, and Hart was struck. Authorities say Hart received aid and was transported to a medical facility.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office says the deputy’s name will not be immediately released.
The sheriff’s office will investigate the criminal case against the suspect. Kentucky State Police is investigating the deputy-involved shooting.
Both investigations are ongoing.
