State police charge Cave City city manager with DUI
Kentucky State Police arrested Cave City’s city manager Sunday night after city police officers there called for their assistance during a traffic stop on city manager Robert Smith.
Cave City officers told state police they stopped a gold Ford Taurus on Old Bardstown Road after receiving a complaint that the car almost struck several vehicles while leaving a Mexican restaurant, according to Smith’s arrest citation.
Smith’s arrest citation shows he was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, failure to produce insurance card and operating a vehicle with an expired operator’s license.
A state trooper asked Smith if he had consumed alcohol to which he replied he had a few drinks at the restaurant, according to his citation.
The trooper noted in Smith’s citation he could smell the odor of alcohol coming from Smith. Smith told police he had numerous medical conditions and was unable to perform any balance tests, according to his citation.
Smith agreed to take a blood test at T.J. Samson Community Hospital and called an attorney. His driver’s license expired in August 2017, according to his citation.
Smith was released from the Barren County Detention Center on his own recognizance, online jail records show.
When reached at City Hall Monday, Smith declined to comment. WNKY was unable to immediately speak Monday morning with Smith’s attorney Johnny Bell.
