State police called to investigate explosive device found in Barren County mailbox

GLASGOW, Ky. – Barren County Sheriff’s Office deputies called for help Wednesday morning from the Kentucky State Police Hazardous Devices Unit after a small improvised explosive device was found in a mailbox in the 1300 block of Oil Well Road.

“It looked like an old film canister,” KSP Post 3 spokesman Jeremy Hodges said.

An x-ray was taken of the device that was found to be intact, Hodges said.

The Hazardous Devices Unit rendered the device safe on the scene, he said.

Law enforcement checked other mailboxes in the area and did not find any additional explosive devices, he said.

KSP along with the U.S. Postal Inspectors are investigating the incident.
