State officials celebrate All in for Agriculture Week at Morgantown Elementary
MORGANTOWN, Ky. – Morgantown Elementary School welcomed special visitors Friday.
Kentucky’s Commissioner of Education, Miss Kentucky, and the Agriculture Commissioner stopped by to help the kids celebrate All in for Agriculture Week.
The purpose of these events is to educate and inspire the future of this vital industry while they are still in school. The kids got to see farm equipment and farm animals up close. They also learned about the many career opportunities available in the science and business of agriculture.
“We’ve been traveling all across from western Kentucky to eastern Kentucky, teaching elementary school students and middle school, high school students all about agriculture and what it has to offer,” said Miss Kentucky Reagan Earlywine.
“We want our kids to know that while we hope that you’re part of a family that has a farm, but if you’re not going to work on a farm, there are many opportunities in agriculture that you can come back home to your area and to work and to contribute and make a good living,” said Dr. Robbie Fletcher, Commissioner of Education, Kentucky.
“Kind of the secret mission that we got on whenever we started doing this was that we don’t know the problems we’re going to have to face in the future. And people my age, people older than me, the teachers in the classroom, the administrators, the farmers who are farming today, they’re not going to be the ones solving these problems. It’s going to be the kids in these classrooms that are solving the problems of the future. And we want them to be educated and interested and excited about agriculture so that they’re solving those problems,” said Jonathan Shell, Agriculture Commission, Kentucky.
Everyone has a part in agriculture, whether they are milking cows on a dairy farm or just sitting down for a home cooked meal as the consumer. It is truly an indispensable industry.
Though Friday marks the end of All in for Agriculture Week for now, it is a twice-yearly celebration.
The next one will be held March 14-19, 2027.
