Starting the New Year Clean
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For many people who have had relatives and friends in their home after the holidays, maybe it is time to think about doing a deep clean.
Dr. Daniel Blatt at Norton Children’s Hospital thinks so and there are a few things he suggests that will not only mitigate the spread of respiratory illnesses that could’ve dropped in uninvited, but also gives the family a chance to start a new tradition.
“When people come over to gather for holidays or parties or any really thing indoors during the winter season, it’s really important to focus on preventing disease transmission.” Blatt said.
Most of his recommended methods are common cleaning techniques and will dramatically reduce the chance for things like Influenza, RSV, COVID and others from hanging around your house after the holidays.
“Things like mopping the floor, wiping down door handles, wiping down countertops, really any kind of high touch surface area is important to clean. So in addition to taking off your shoes, it’s really important to clean anything that’s touched very frequently, especially countertops, doorknobs, bathrooms.” Blatt said.
Blatt also recommends that families consider becoming shoes off households, this can not only save flooring and carpet, but it can also reduce the number of things that get tracked into your house that can make you and your children sick.
