St. Teresa Ministries donates over $130,000 to fight food insecurity in community

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With Bowling Green and Warren County issuing a proclamation declaring it World Food Day, one nonprofit is stepping up to help those who provide free food to the hungry.

St. Teresa Ministries gave out grants on Thursday totaling over $130,000 to four groups on the front lines of fighting food insecurity here locally.

The St. Joseph Conference of St. Vincent de Paul received over $56,000 to help provide food and emergency assistance to individuals and families in need. In accepting the grant, Susan Crabbe said one woman fainted when she was there in line for food.

Susan Crabbe, St. Joseph Conference of St. Vincent de Paul, says, “Basically, what she said, she hadn’t eaten in two days. So we took the produce part of what we were going to give her, and he made her sit there and eat it. And I think, you know, she got better. The other lady took her home.”

Jennifer Bailey, director of development with St. Teresa Ministries, says, “To be able to focus on any organization that is going to help feed our hungry here in Warren County is just an absolute must. Meals Inc. for example, they serve a hot meal every Saturday.”

Holy Spirit Conference of St. Vincent de Paul, Meals Inc. and Holy Spirit International Outreach also received grants for the work they do feeding the hungry.

St. Teresa Ministries runs a thrift store at the Fairview Shopping Center, the profits of which go to fund efforts like these. They have given out $750,000 in aid since 2001.
