Special Olympian visits cover the cruiser event at WNKY

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One special Olympian from Bowling Green visited WNKY’s station today to help raise funds for Special Olympics Kentucky.

Matthew Gilliam tied on his running shoes and hit the pavement at 8-years-old, and he never looked back. Since then, he has won hundreds of metals, many competing in Special Olympics Kentucky.

Champions like Matthew are why Kentucky State Police spent the week hosting Cover the Cruiser. For $1, people could come write their names on sheets of paper and tape them to a police cruiser. The police visited different locations, competing between their posts to see who could raise the most money for the special Olympians.

The troopers closed out the week hosting the event at WNKY. Kentucky State Police Post 3 raised $2,412.57 for Olympians like Matthew over the course of the event.
