Spartans and Falcons advance to fill final spots in 4th Region Tournament semifinals

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Round one of the boys 4th Region Tournament concluded inside Diddle Arena on Wednesday night, as two more teams locked in their spot for the semifinals next week.
The first game of the evening featured South Warren and Logan County.
2026 marked the first-ever appearance in the tournament in program history for the Spartans while the Cougars were looking for their first win in the tournament since 2020.
The first half of that game was a back-and-forth battle, but it was the Spartans who held a 6-point advantage at the end of the first half.
A combined 34 points in the matchup from Cougars Davis Switzer and JB McTire helped their squad stay not too far behind the Spartans, but South Warren never gave up their lead in the second half.
Owen Shively led the Spartans with 13 points while Brandon Perkins brought the defense to life with six steals. The team as a whole scored 28 points off of Cougar turnovers.
After the 57-44 win, South Warren head coach Carlos Quarles praised his team for staying composed in the high-stakes battle.
“ As we got a lead in the fourth, I wanted to be patient on the offense, but not stop playing,” Quarles said. “We wanted to space them out because I felt that we had an advantage with our ball handlers and that we can get to the basket and get layups and things of high percentage shots, things of that nature. We just wanted to space the college floor out and we got some really good guard play that helped us out tonight.”
Meeting South Warren in the semifinal game on Monday night is Monroe County.
The Falcons defeated the Glasgow Scotties 63-61 for their first win in the 4th region tournament since 2015.
Glasgow led by two points at halftime thanks to a strong offensive night from Jaylen Bradley and Jerrick Martin, but an 18-point fourth quarter from Monroe County allowed the Falcons to hold the advantage at the end of regulation.
South Warren and Monroe County face off in the 4th region tournament semifinal on Monday, March 9, at 8 p.m. CT inside Diddle Arena.
