Southern KY celebrates 2-1-1 Day and impact of service
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – February 11th marks National 2-1-1 Day.
It’s a day devoted to the call service United Way provides for those in need of assistance in a variety of ways.
In celebration of 2-1-1 Day, United Way of Southern Kentucky is asking for your help in shining a light on the services.
Southern Kentucky’s 2-1-1 is available to residents across the 10 county Barren River Area Development District.
The nationwide service connects over 14 million people to contact specialists.
Those specialists work with callers to assess their needs and determine their options.
2-1-1 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
The service provides information concerning utilities, food, housing, transportation and more.
The local 2-1-1 call center, which opened in 2016, saw a 13% increase in call volume from 2017-2018.
Chris Dressler, the Contact Center Director, says without 2-1-1 the community’s needs wouldn’t be met.
Southern Kentucky’s 2-1-1 service fielded a total of 7,113 calls between January 1st and December 31st of 2018.
Since its inception in 2016, they have also served over 17,000 households.
