Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College to highlight importance of FAFSA with fiesta event

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-FAFSA, which stands for free application for federal student aid is a resource that can make higher education more accessible. A local college is preparing to spotlight its importance.

Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College is looking to hold the FAFSA Fiesta event, which will be for those who have not completed the FAFSA for the 2021-2022 school year.

Nationwide, FAFSA applications are down, which is why the college is changing things up with a fiesta twist. Previously, the event was called FAFSA Friday.

The fiesta days will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 11 at the Franklin-Simpson campus, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 13 at the Glasgow Health campus, and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. May 16 at the main campus in Bowling Green.

“We wanted to help people feel calmer about the process, since they can get nervous about completing a form like the FAFSA. This will help them realize it’s not that bad. It’ll only take about 30 minutes to get through as far as our part in helping to walk them through that process. Having food, drink, and a fun atmosphere will really help them with that process,” said SKYCTC associate vice president of marketing and communications Rebecca Lee.

For those attending, you’re asked to bring 2019 tax returns, or tax returns from parents for dependents and a social security card. No registration is required.
