South Warren goes on brief lock down due to online threat

BOWLING GREEN, KY – The Warren County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of an “airdrop threat” at South Warren High School, according to a Twitter alert from the Sheriff’s office.

The suspect has been identified and there is no imminent threat.

The school is no longer in lock down, according to the alert.

Principal Jenny Hester sent correspondence to parents and guardians regarding the incident.

“In keeping with our commitment of providing timely and transparent information to our families, this letter is to inform you of a situation that prompted a brief lockdown at our school,” Hester said in the letter.

“This morning at 10:28, administration received information from a teacher that a student had received an airdrop message containing an inappropriate meme.  The message was vague but could be perceived as a threat, so out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to hold students in their classroom so that our School Resource Officer could identify the source.  Within minutes, the individual responsible for sending the air drop came forward.  We have no information to suggest that there is a credible safety concern.

“We will continue working with our school resource officer and the Warren County Sheriff’s Department to ensure appropriate consequences are enforced for this student.

“I would like to assure our families that we treat every potential threat with the seriousness it warrants and are confident that our local law enforcement agencies have handled the situation professionally and in a manner that continues to protect our students.

“Because the investigation is in the hands of WCSO, we do not anticipate having further updates on this situation or the legal process to follow.  However, we have every confidence in the WCSO and the individuals responsible for ensuring proper disciplinary actions are enforced.  As always, thank you for entrusting us to serve and educate your child,” Hester’s letter read.
