South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force arrests man suspected in multiple robberies
RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – Detectives with the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force along with Russellville police arrested a man late Tuesday night in Russellville on a bank robbery charge out of Mississippi.
Russell John Shelton, 50, is being held in the Logan County Detention Center without bond charged with being a fugitive from another state based on the pending Mississippi bank robbery charge, according to a release from the task force.
“He is a suspect in other robberies in Mississippi and Alabama,” task force director Jacky Hunt said. “One of my detectives received a call from another law enforcement agency that a suspect from a bank robbery in Mississippi could possibly be in the Russellville area.”
With that information detectives set up surveillance near a home in the 400 block of Rhea Avenue and located the suspect vehicle, Hunt said. Task force detectives along with Russellville police made contact with Shelton at the home when he answered the door, Hunt said.
Once police confirmed his identity, he was taken into custody without incident at 11:36 p.m., Hunt said.
