SoKY’s Choice: Putting final touches on SoKY Fair ahead of opening night
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – The sounds of hammers, forklifts and carnival rides filled the SOKY Fairgrounds on Sunday as volunteers, vendors and carnival crews worked to prepare for the opening of the SOKY Fair.
Organizers spent the weekend assembling rides, setting up vendor booths and making final inspections before the gates open Monday at 6 p.m. The annual fair is organized by the Bowling Green-Warren County Jaycees and serves as the group’s largest fundraiser of the year, with proceeds supporting community projects across the region.
Alex Marlin with the SOKY Fair said the money raised during fair week helps the Jaycees give back long after the rides are packed away.
“A lot of the funds that are raised because of the fair, the Jaycees are able to take that money and do different projects throughout the year to give back to the community, help children in the community, put on the Christmas Parade and just multiple events throughout the year,” Marlin said.
The weeklong fair features carnival rides, food vendors, local businesses and a variety of special events, including Touch-a-Truck, horse shows, racing and a rodeo.
Korina Lee, president of the Bowling Green-Warren County Jaycees, said the event would not be possible without the businesses and organizations that continue to support the fair each year.
“I would like to say thanks to all of our sponsors from the community because they have helped us out a lot with things that we’ve needed around here,” Lee said.
The SOKY Fair opens Monday at 6 p.m. Monday is Kentucky Lottery Night, with $5 admission. Admission Tuesday through Saturday is $20 and includes unlimited carnival rides.
