SoKY’s Choice: Groove & Glow brings balloons, community together in Glasgow
GLASGOW, Ky. (WNKY) – Hot air balloons, live music and family activities brought the community together Saturday for Groove & Glow in Glasgow.
The free event, organized by Entertain Glasgow with support from community partners, gave families a chance to see hot air balloons up close while enjoying food trucks, inflatables, a gaming truck and live music.
April Russell, a member of the Entertain Glasgow committee, said the event draws both visitors and people who call the area home.
“We get to see people that come into our community and spend the day here,” Russell said. “And then we get to see people from within our community. I’ve seen old friends and businesses and different people that are here, and they all say what a wonderful time they’re having.”
Russell said community partners help keep admission and many of the activities free, with attendees responsible for purchasing their own food and drinks.
One moment Saturday stood out to Russell. A woman who uses a wheelchair came to the event hoping to experience a hot air balloon ride.
“They were able to take her and her wheelchair up in that hot air balloon,” Russell said. “And that’s what it means.”
Planning for the next Groove & Glow begins almost immediately. Russell said organizers work with the balloon group to determine when balloons are available before scheduling the event.
